Scriptural Savant

Apocalypse of Abraham 31

Related ancient text — scholarly reference

Extra-canonical text — not LDS scripture and not in the KJV Apocrypha. Provided as scholarly reference for parallel literature of the Second Temple period and the early Christian era. Read with discernment; the Apostle Jude quotes 1 Enoch and Paul knew this material, but inclusion here is for study, not doctrine.

1And then I will sound the trumpet out of the air, and will send my Elect One,

2having in Him all my power in one measure, and He shall summon my despised people from all nations,

3and I will send fire upon those who have insulted them and who have ruled over them in this age.

4And I will give those who have covered Me with mockery and scorn the coming Age1,

5I have prepared them to be food for the fires of Hades,

6and perpetual flight through the air in the underworld2, for they shall see the righteousness of the CREATOR,

7and those whom He now honours, and they shall he ashamed, for I had hoped that they would come to me in repentance,

8rather than loving foreigners Gods, but they forsook the Mighty Lord, and went the way that they willed to go.

Public-domain text (R.H. Charles 1913 and equivalents). These works are not canonical, but several were widely read in antiquity and one (1 Enoch) is quoted by name in Jude 1:14–15. Useful for understanding the doctrinal landscape from which the apostles and earliest saints taught.
