Apocalypse of Abraham 11

Read with discernment; the Apostle Jude quotes 1 Enoch and Paul knew this material, but inclusion here is for study, not doctrine.

1And I rose up and saw him who had grasped me by the right hand and set me upon my feet,

2and the appearance of his body was like sapphire, the look of his countenance like crysolite,

3the hair of his head like snow, the turban on his head like the appearance of the rainbow,

4the clothing of his garments like purple and a golden sceptre was in his right hand.

5And he said to me, “Abraham!” And I said, “Here I am, your servant.”

6And he said, “Let not my appearance frighten you, nor my speech trouble your soul.

7Come with me, and I will be with you, visible, until the sacrifice,

8but after the sacrifice always invisible.

9Be of good cheer and come!”

Public-domain text (R.H. Charles 1913 and equivalents). These works are not canonical, but several were widely read in antiquity and one (1 Enoch) is quoted by name in Jude 1:14–15. Useful for understanding the doctrinal landscape from which the apostles and earliest saints taught.
