1And we went, the two of us together, for forty days and nights1,
2and I ate no bread and drank no water2, because my food and my drink was to see the angel who was with me, and to hear his speech.
3And we came to the Mount of GOD, Mount Horeb,
4and I said to the Angel: “Singer of the Eternal One, I have no sacrifice with me3,
5nor am I aware of the place of an altar on the mountain, how could I bring a sacrifice?”
6And he said to me: “Look around you.” And when I looked around
7there following us were all the prescribed animals, the young heifer, the she goat, the ram, the turtle dove and the pigeon.
8And the angel said to me: “Abraham!” And I said: “Here am I.”
9And he said, “Slaughter all these animals, exactly into halves. But do not cut the birds apart.
10And give these to the men whom I will show you, standing by you, for these are the altar upon the mountain
11to offer a sacrifice to the Eternal, but the turtle dove and the pigeon give to me,
12for I will ascend upon the wings of the bird4, so that you may be able to see in heaven upon the earth,
13in the sea, in the abyss, in the underworld, in the Garden of Eden, in its rivers,
14and in the fullness of the whole world and its circle. You shall gaze into them all.”
