Apocalypse of Abraham 22

Related ancient text — scholarly reference

Extra-canonical text — not LDS scripture and not in the KJV Apocrypha. Provided as scholarly reference for parallel literature of the Second Temple period and the early Christian era. Read with discernment; the Apostle Jude quotes 1 Enoch and Paul knew this material, but inclusion here is for study, not doctrine.

1And I said: “0 ETERNAL, Mighty One! What is this vision and picture of the creatures?”.

2And He said to me: “This is my will for those who exist in the divine world-counsel, for thus it seemed well-pleasing in my sight,

3and so afterwards I gave the commandments to them through My word.

4So that everything I had decided to create had already been planned before in this ,

5it was in front of Me before it was created, you have seen”. 26 And I said: “O LORD, Mighty and ETERNAL! Who are the people in this picture on this side and that?”. 7 And He said to me, “Those who are on the left side3 are all those, born before your day and afterwards, some destined for judgment and restoration, 8 and others for vengeance and cutting off at the end of the ages. 9 But those on the right side3 of the picture, they are the people who have been set apart for me, 10 and whom I have ordained to be born of your line and called my people, even some of those who derive from Azazel.

Public-domain text (R.H. Charles 1913 and equivalents). These works are not canonical, but several were widely read in antiquity and one (1 Enoch) is quoted by name in Jude 1:14–15. Useful for understanding the doctrinal landscape from which the apostles and earliest saints taught.
