Scriptural Savant

Life of Adam and Eve 42

Related ancient text — scholarly reference

Extra-canonical text — not LDS scripture and not in the KJV Apocrypha. Provided as scholarly reference for parallel literature of the Second Temple period and the early Christian era. Read with discernment; the Apostle Jude quotes 1 Enoch and Paul knew this material, but inclusion here is for study, not doctrine.

1(42.1) For in no wise can you receive any until the last days,

2(42.2) after 550 years have passed.

3(42.3) Then the most loving king of God will come upon the earth to resurrect the body of Adam, and, with him, the bodies of all the dead. The very Son of God, when he comes, will be baptized in the river Jordan, and when he comes forth from the water of the Jordan, he will then anoint all who believe in him with the oil of his mercy.

4(42.4) This oil of mercy will be from generation to generation on those who are reborn of water and the Holy Spirit into eternal life.

5(42.5) Then, the most loving Son of God will descend into the earth and lead your father, Adam, back into paradise to the tree of mercy. [End Gospel of Nicodemus interpolation.]

Public-domain text (R.H. Charles 1913 and equivalents). These works are not canonical, but several were widely read in antiquity and one (1 Enoch) is quoted by name in Jude 1:14–15. Useful for understanding the doctrinal landscape from which the apostles and earliest saints taught.
