A philosophical poem in Greek, written probably in first-century-BC Alexandria, on the nature of Wisdom (Sophia) as the breath of God's power, the brightness of everlasting light, and the unspotted mirror of his glory (7:25–26). The personified Wisdom here is a major bridge between Proverbs 8 and the Logos theology of John 1 — and the Christological reading was deeply influential on the early Fathers. The book also contains the most explicit pre-Christian statement of righteous suffering and the resurrection of the just (chapters 2–5).
