1But Dan and Gad fled also into the thicket of the wood, and the sons of Leah pursued them, wishing to slay them. Then Asenath again came down from the chariot, and ran and made obeisance and entreated them, saying: "I beseech you, my brethren, spare your brethren and do them no evil thing, for that the Lord shall judge between us and them." Then Levi said to her: "Wherefore doth our lady plead for her enemies? Nay, but we will hew them down with our swords, because they first plotted evils against our father Israel and our brother Joseph, and now also against thee today." And Asenath said to Levi: "Nay, brother, do thou not render evil for evil, for that the Lord himself will avenge this despite." Then Levi and his brethren left them and did not slay them. And so Dan and Gad were spared at Asenath's entreaty. And they went away and lived in fear, dwelling apart, until they were reconciled.
