1I, however, having pondered my father’s anger, I went out. So afterward when I had gone out , he called me saying, “Abraham!” And I said: “Here I am”.
2So he said: “Take and collect the splinters of the wood out of which I made Gods of pine-wood before you came,
3and make ready for me the food of the mid-day meal.”
4And it came to pass, when I collected the splinters of wood, I found among them a little God
5which had been lying among the brush-wood on my left, and on his forehead was written: God Barisat.1
6And I did not inform my father that I had found the wooden God Barisat under the chips.
7And it came to pass, when I had laid the splinters in the fire in order that I might prepare the food for my father, 8
8and going out to ask a question regarding the food, I placed Barisat before the kindled fire, I placed Barisat before the kindled fire,
9saying threateningly to him: “Pay careful attention, Barisat, the fire do not die down until I come back. if the fire goes out, blow on it so it flares up.”
10And I went out and accomplished my purpose.2
11When I returned I found Barisat fallen on his back, and his feet surrounded by fire burning fiercely.
12I burst into a fit of laughter, and I said to myself: “Truly, O Barisat, you know how to light a fire and cook food”.
13And it came to pass, while saying this in my laughter, I saw was gradually burnt up by the fire and reduced to ashes.
14So I brought the food to my father, and he did eat.
15I gave him wine and milk,3 and he was pleased, blessing his God Merumath.
16So I said to him: “O father Terah, bless not thy God Merumath, and praise him not, but rather praise your God Barisat
17because, loving you more, he threw himself into the fire in order to cook your food.”
18And he said to me: “And where is he now?” “He is burnt to ashes in the fierceness of the fire and is reduced to dust.”
19And he said: “Great is the power of Barisat! I make another today, and tomorrow he will prepare my food.”
