1 Enoch Pseudepigrapha — not canonical
Five originally separate Aramaic and Hebrew works fused into a single Ethiopic codex preserved only in the Ethiopian Orthodox canon — the Book of the Watchers (chs 1–36), the Parables or Book of Similitudes (37–71), the Astronomical Book (72–82), the Book of Dream Visions (83–90), and the Epistle of Enoch (91–108). The earliest material (Watchers and Astronomical) is securely dated to the third century BC, predating Daniel; Aramaic fragments were recovered at Qumran (4QEn), confirming the antiquity. Jude 14–15 quotes 1 Enoch 1:9 as prophecy, and the language of 1 Enoch 6–7 about the Watchers descending in the days of Jared is mirrored almost verbatim in Moses 7:32–33, 36–37. The Parables' Son-of-Man figure (chapters 46–48, 62, 71) is the single most important Second Temple background for the Son of Man title in the Synoptic Gospels. 108 chapters · R.H.
